The New Avenues as they are called were built in the 1940`s, are lined with cafes, restaurants, banks, pharmacies and movie theatres. The Praça de Touros, an EX-libris of this part of town, is a Neo- Moorish structure built in the late 19th century all in red brick and features keyhole shaped windows and double cupolas decorated with a crescent moon, are nowadays a modern and sought after mall. There is the metro and plenty of buses which will take you anywhere in Lisbon, in the vicinity is the train station of Entre Campos which runs to the beaches of the Costa da Caparica and to the Algarve. The Gulbenkian Museum and it´s gardens are a must, the museum houses a unique collection of Islamic and Oriental art as well as European painting and numerous Lalique´s creations, among other things. There are three universities nearby: the government run Universidade de Lisboa and two private  ones: Universidade Nova, faculty of social sciences and Universidade Lusófona as well as various Portuguese language schools. The airport is at a mere 15 min drive.
